Cal/West Seeds – leader in alfalfa and forage breeding since 1959
Since 1959, Cal/West Seeds has been one of the original private forage breeders with two research stations and seventeen off-site testing locations throughout the United States. These two primary research stations are located in Woodland, CA and West Salem, WI with a combined research staff of 18 full-time plant breeders, agronomists and technicians to support the work in pathology, entomology, nematology, and biotechnology. Cal/West Seeds is one of two U.S. forage breeding companies with a substantial investment in biotechnology research to develop varieties with enhanced agronomic and economic benefits.
Cal/West Seeds breeding program is focused on all alfalfa dormancies, berseem clover, dichondra, ladino white clover, hardy and winter active red clover, teff grass, hybrid sudangrass, forage sorghum, safflower and sunflower. The primary goals of the program include:
