Sorghum x Sudangrass is a multiple harvest product with a slower recovery than Hybrid sudangrass and is an excellent choice for hay or silage.

Forage King
A Brown Midrib Sorghum-Sudangrass hybrid used for grazing, hay or haylage
- Premium product for the producer wanting to get the most fromgrazing, hay or haylage.
- Forage King is completely “brown midrib” providing increased digestibility of stems and leaves. Adding the brown midrib to a sorghum-sudangrass hybrid increases the proportions of cellulose and hemicellulose in the stem while decreasing the more indigestible lignin. Lignin content is decreased approximately 40-60% depending on environmental conditions.
- Improved forage quality means growers will experience increased weight gain and milk production above those obtained from conventional sorghum-sudangrass hybrids when fed to animals in equal quantities.
Field Appearance at Harvest Maturity
- Forage King has fine, thin stems with long, narrow leaves.
- Standability is excellent as well as its regrowth capability.
- Disease and drought tolerance are very good.
- Green leaf retention at harvest is excellent.
Seed Characteristics
- Seed Count: 15,000 to 16,000 seeds per pound
- Planting Depth: 1-1.5 inches
- Seeding Rates:

Crop Management
- Apply Nitrogen (N) at a rate of 1-1.25 lb of actual N per growing day. Due to sorghum x sudangrass being a multiple harvest crop, apply N application after planting and after each harvest for maximum production and return on investment vs a one time application.
- For faster regrowth to occur leave 2 nodes (approximately 4-6 inches) on all hybrid sorghum x sudangrass.
- Requires 40-50% less water than corn for similar productivity, thus works very well in heat and drought stress conditions.
