Adaptation and Use

- Normally 3-4 feet tall at harvest maturity

- Forage quality is comparable to Timothy
- Best utilized for dry hay or direct pasture
- Seasonal yield can exceed 6 tons per acre with aggressive management and conducive growing conditions
Management Profile
- Plant after spring frost danger has passed and soil temperatures exceed 70º
- Drill or broadcast 8-10 pounds of coated seed per acre into a firm seedbed at a quarter inch or shallower seeding depth.
- A fast growing, multi-crop, warm season grass that responds to fertility, especially N
- For maximum seasonal yield and forage quality harvest by early heading. Normally 2 or 3 harvest per season depending upon location
- Set a cutting height of 3-4 inches to promote rapid regrowth after harvest
- Growth ceases with the first fall frost but is safe to harvest
