PGI 459

Management Profile

  • Thrives on aggressive, best management practices for bigger second, third, fourth and fifth cuttings
  • Adapted to production zones where fall dormancy 3, 4 or 5 alfalfas are recommended
  • Four and five cut harvest systems maximize yield and animal performance per acre

harvest system

  • Very early maturity. Normally 3 to 5 days ahead of conventional dormant alfalfas. Offers large acreage producers a head start to the harvest season and subsequent cutting
  • Recommended harvest by early flower to stay on schedule for maximum harvests each growing season
  • Greenup after harvest is similar to conventional dormant alfalfas, but when growth begins, it’s at an accelerated rate. The Fast Growth Trait can produce an extra six inches of growth at 21 days and reach harvest maturity 3 to 5 days ahead of other alfalfas
  • Yield or persistence has not been adversely affected by the extra wheel traffic from harvesting operations
  • When direct seeded in the spring, the Fast Growth Trait begins to express on the recovery of the second crop. Summer or fall seeding exhibits Fast Growth in the second year.

Field Appearance at Harvest Maturity

  • Medium-tall, upright with large, eye catching leaves
  • Lush, healthy, medium-dark green plant color

Ratings are based on average performance of the variety over a wide range of climate and soil types. Actual performance may be adversely affected by extreme conditions. Unless stated, ratings are based on standardized testing procedures endorsed by the North American Alfalfa Improvement Conference.

Fast Growth: The Fast Growth percentage is calculated from weekly measurements of varieties growing side by side from greenup to harvest through the growing season.

The Standfast Fast Growth Advantage

  • Bred for the demanding grower who uses best management practices.
  • Bigger second, third and fourth crop maximize yield
  • 4 to 6 inches of extra growth in the first 21 days
  • Up to 30% faster growth than competitive alfalfas

                StandFast

PGI 459 Alfalfa was developed
from crossing unique, tall, fastgrowing European germplasm, screened for U.S. adaptability, onto elite U.S. fall dormancy 4 plants selected for superior yield, forage quality and persistence. The resulting alfalfas express either faster growth and/or improved standability traits and are designated as StandFast Alfalfas.

A measured 30% faster growth
rate than other dormant alfalfas.
For extra growth, fewer days to maturity to produce bigger second, third, fourth and fifth cuttings.

Forage quality components CP,
NDFD, ADF, RFQ are equal to
best alfalfas. StandFast alfalfa is
a non-GMO technology with
patent pending and registered
trademark.
